Tension Member Technology conducted bend over sheave testing of 6x9 Twaron® 3/4 inch Aramid yarn laid rope made by Whitehill Manufacturing Corporation. Ropes were constructed with and without GORE Performance Fiber for High Performance Ropes.
Test conditions: Load, 25% of break strength; cycle rate, 500 cycles/hour; speed, 1.1 ft/sec; D:d, 20; sheave, 15 inch.

Test conditions: Load, 18.5% of break strength; cycle rate, 500 cycles/hour; speed, 1.1 ft/sec; D:d, 20; sheave, 15 inch.

Reduced Rope Operating Temperatures
GORE Performance Fiber for High Performance Ropes dramatically reduces the rope surface temperature during operation.
Tension Member Technology monitored the rope surface temperature during the bend over sheave testing. The 12-strand 3/4 inch Vectran® LCP yarn braided ropes made by Cortland Cable were constructed with and without GORE Performance Fiber for High Performance Ropes.
Test conditions: Load, 18.5% of break strength; cycle rate, 500 cycles/hour; speed, 1.1 ft/sec; D:d, 20; sheave, 15 inch.

Extended Service Life
The Charts below illustrate extended service life of ropes using GORE Performance Fiber for High Performance Ropes in braided and laid rope constructions. The addition of GORE Performance Fiber for High Performance Ropes dramatically increased cycles to failure.
