Cable Performance & Specifications

GORE Shielded Twisted Pair Cables for Aerospace & Defense are built with a rugged engineered fluoropolymer jacket, braided shield and color-coded composite dielectric surrounding silver-plated copper or SPC alloy conductors. We also offer a PU halogen-free outer jacket for use in defense vehicle applications. These cables bring a host of other benefits, like:

LOW-VOLTAGE DIFFERENTIAL SIGNALS

Delivering excellent signal integrity, Gore’s cables utilize LVDS with controlled impedance for data transmission lines at speeds up to 1 GHz. The durability of their construction materials provides a higher tolerance against typical airborne and land conditions.

LOW-PROFILE CONFIGURATION

These cables are 30% smaller and 50% lighter than standard oval cables and drastically smaller than alternative round cables. Our low-profile configuration directly impacts saving weight in defense and civil aircraft and military vehicles. And their configuration allows for more flexibility and easier routing in hard-to-reach places for improved installation.

HIGH-SPEED CONNECTOR COMPATIBILITY

Our cables fit many high-speed aerospace and defense connector systems and backshells, like ARINC and MIL-STD 389999 with differential Twinax sizes 8 and 22D contacts. For exact part numbers, tooling information or termination instructions, contact the manufacturer, including Amphenol®, Glenair® and more.

Compliance with Rigorous Industry Standards

Typical airborne and ground defense environments are often harsh and can change quickly at high altitudes or when climate zones change. To meet the demands of challenging environments, GORE Shielded Twisted Pair Cables for Aerospace & Defense meet SAE AS4373™ Test Methods for Insulated Electric Wire, as well as the following:

  • Flammability: ABD0031 (AITM 2.0005); BSS7230; FAR Part 25, Appendix F, Part I (DXN2600 through DXN2606)
  • Toxicity: ABD0031 (AITM 3.0005); BSS7239 (DXN2600 through DXN2606)
  • Smoke Density: ABD0031 (AITM 3.0008B); BSS7238; FAR Part 25, Appendix F, Part V (DXN2600 through DXN2606)
  • Environmental Testing, Jacket and Marking: ANSI/NEMA WC 27500 (DXN2600 through DXN2606)
  • Performance Requirements: VG95218-31 (GSC-03-85203-VG)

Typical Applications & Cable Preparation

GORE Shielded Twisted Pair Cables for Aerospace & Defense support various applications and offer the speed, signal clarity and strength required to accommodate a wide range of high data rate needs. Common applications include:

  • Avionics & vectronics digital networks
  • Cabin management systems
  • Ethernet backbone
  • HD streaming camera & video systems
  • High-density connectors
  • LVDS devices
  • Sensor & processor interconnects
  • Serial buses

Laser stripping is the preferred method to prepare our shielded twisted pair cables for your military or civil application. Thermal stripping and sharp mechanical strippers are suitable as well.
