Data Sheet: GORE® Fiber Optic Cables (900 micron) for Aerospace & Defense
Data Sheets, United States
With an ideal blend of small, light size and rugged construction, GORE Fiber Optic Cables (900 micron) from W. L. Gore & Associates are easy to route and durable enough to withstand challenging environments. This version offers greater shrink-back reduction and shorter sample termination times with a similar level of crush resistance as our other Simplex cables to protect sensitive components. Single- and multi-mode cores offer the versatility needed to support high-speed data transfer in airborne and defense systems.
Cable Performance & Specifications
Designed with a tan polyether ether ketone (PEEK) outer jacket to protect the fiber core, our 900-micron version is available in single- and multi-mode configurations with a high-temperature acrylate coating. An expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) buffering system adds more protection and helps ensure excellent optical performance for clear data transmission. It all adds up to GORE Fiber Optic Cables (900 micron) for Aerospace & Defense delivering the following benefits:
COST-EFFECTIVE, LIFETIME PERFORMANCE
Similar to our other Simplex cables, this 900-micron version provides a high level of crush protection while drastically reducing shrink back, as well as the time required to terminate samples. What’s more, these cables deliver unfailing signal transmission with low optical loss up to 100 Gb/s. Using our fiber optic cables in rigorous maintenance and operational conditions means that engineers can ensure lifetime performance and lower total costs for both commercial and defense aircraft, as well as military ground vehicles.
SMALLER & LIGHTER WEIGHT
Due to their unique materials, these cables' size, weight and flexibility make them easy to route in tight installation spaces and prove to be an excellent choice for inside-the-box applications and transceivers.
Standards Compliance across Several Applications
To ensure lasting performance, aviation and defense cables must withstand challenging environments and hazardous conditions. GORE Fiber Optic Cables (900 micron) for Aerospace & Defense have been rigorously tested and pre-qualified to comply with key industry standards, including:
- Performance Requirements: ARINC 802-3
- Flammability: ABD0031 (AITM 2.0005); BSS7230; FAR Part 25, Appendix F, Part I
- Smoke Density: ABD0031 (AITM 3.0008B); BSS7238; FAR Part 25, Appendix F, Part V
- Toxicity: ABD0031 (AITM 3.0005); BSS7239
Our 900-micron optical fiber cables are proven effective for applications like inside-the-box and transceivers. This version can also be reliable for outside-the-box applications when packaged with GORE® Cable Protection Systems.
These cables are also compatible with many high-speed aerospace and defense connector systems and backshells. Examples include ARINC, MIL-STD-38999 and MIL-PRF-29504 from manufacturers like Amphenol®, COTSWORKS®, Glenair® and Radiall.
