Data Sheet: GORE® Spaceflight Microwave/RF Assemblies
Data Sheets, United States
Spacecraft are exposed to extreme conditions that can jeopardize signal transmission capabilities, making it impossible for repairs in space. Whether traveling millions of miles for exploration or enabling global connectivity, space programs need durable solutions with reduced size and weight they can trust to perform without failure. W. L. Gore & Associates answers the call with small, low-mass GORE® Spaceflight Microwave/RF Assemblies proven to maintain electrical and mechanical performance in the harshest environments, ensuring mission readiness and success.
Complete Line of GORE Spaceflight Microwave/RF Assemblies
Made in our ESA-qualified and ISO 9001:2000-certified manufacturing facility, GORE Spaceflight Microwave/RF Assemblies meet mass-driven or insertion loss application requirements in Traditional Space or NewSpace and Launch applications. They’re comprised of Gore’s patented technology, expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE), which allows us to produce high-performance cable assemblies in durable, small, low-mass designs with high flexibility.
Gore works closely with the ESA (European Space Agency) and NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) to deliver low-risk products with valued reliability. Our high-performance solutions undergo rigorous qualification testing to replicate integration, launch and in-orbit phases. They meet the following low earth orbit (LEO) and geostationary earth orbit (GEO) applications:
High Power
Manufactured on Gore’s advanced PIM (Passive Intermodulation) processing line, our cable types deliver proven power handling and multipaction performance. They’re designed specifically for TNC, SMA, and multipaction-free wedge TNC connectors.
High Frequency
Optimized for Ka-Band frequencies, we offer cable types in smaller diameters to meet mass-driven applications or larger diameters to meet insertion loss-driven applications.
High Density
Ideal for inside-the-box or box-to-box applications, we offer cable types in smaller footprints to ease challenging installation paths and reduce overall spacecraft mass. Our push-on connectors don’t need a torque wrench for fast and easy integration.
Benefits of GORE Spaceflight Microwave/RF Assemblies
Backed by decades of 100% failure-free flight records, our cable assemblies have proven successful in a host of missions like the 1969 Apollo 11 mission to the moon. They’ve also been trusted on hundreds of other iconic programs, like the International Space Station, Mars Perseverance, Space Shuttles, Hubble Space Telescope and more. They deliver many advantages over alternative products, including:
Reliable Signals amid Harsh Conditions
Our durable microwave/RF cable assemblies are specifically engineered to maintain electrical and mechanical integrity in volatile launch and spaceflight conditions. Thanks to their ability to withstand the following, they transmit uninterrupted signals with low loss from DC to 40 GHz while providing excellent phase stability and shielding effectiveness:
- Extreme temperatures from -155°C to +150°C
- Atomic oxygen (ATOX) (PFA material)
- Radiation exposure
- Shock & vibration
SMALL, LOW-MASS DESIGNS
With advanced technologies, Gore can substantially reduce cable size and weight without compromising durability to help minimize problems with challenging mass budgets and tight installation paths. Gore offers a wide range of smaller-diameter assemblies down to 2.2 millimeters (0.085 inches) that are low mass for significant weight savings and flexible for quicker, more simplified routing.
ROBUST, LOW-PROFILE CONNECTORS
We manufacture a variety of connectors engineered to complement the performance of each cable assembly, minimizing loss and reflection for optimized signal transmission. Options include, but are not limited to, the following:
- SMA & SSMA
- SMP & SMPM
- 2.92 mm
- TNC & TNCA
- And more
How to Order GORE Spaceflight Microwave/RF Assemblies
For Traditional Space and NewSpace and Launch applications, our solutions operate reliably from DC to 40 GHz and are available in smaller, low-mass designs with a variety of connector options. Our part numbers contain 16 characters that designate the cable type, connector codes, assembly length, connector form and an additional identifier, which includes the temperature range. If you’re ready to order our cable types in the following outer diameters, contact a Gore distributor now for in-stock availability.
