Termination Instructions: GORE® Ethernet Cables & Carlisle Octax® M38999 (Size 11) Connector System
Technical Information, United States
W. L. Gore & Associates developed the following procedures based on our best practices for terminating our 4-pair Ethernet cables for Cat6A protocol with the Carlisle Octax® M38999 (Size 11) Connector System, plug shell and socket shell versions. By following these steps, you can maximize your assembly’s performance when connected to avionics and vectronics.
Please note: While these Termination Instructions offer a helpful guide, they should always be used alongside current connector system manufacturing instructions for best results.
About the Termination Instructions
These Termination Instructions are intended solely for terminating Gore’s 4-pair Cat6A Ethernet cables with the plug shell and socket shell versions of the Carlisle Octax® M38999 (Size 11) Connector System. They first detail the tools and materials you’ll need, which include:
- Needle nose pliers, crimpers and hand strippers
- Scalpel, tweezer scissors and cutters
- Socket positioner (K41) and pin positioner (K42)
- Torque meter and adapters
- DRP-10
- Thread locker and Allen key
- Contact retention tools
Preparing the cables and parts, terminating the plug shell (Termination A) and socket shell (Termination B), closing the connectors, and performing the required testing are all thoroughly covered with easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions and visual aids, like photos and illustrations, to help you ensure proper termination.
Performing Required Testing
You should perform all required testing. Gore recommends the assembly should, at a minimum, be verified for proper wiring and continuity, and checked for shorts. You may be required to complete additional testing by local authorities and/or end-users.
