GORE® LOW DRAG Filter Bag Released for Carbon Black Applications
ELKTON, Md. (April 16, 2018) – W. L. Gore & Associates is pleased to introduce GORE® LOW DRAG Filter Bags for use in carbon black manufacturing operations. GORE LOW DRAG Filter Bags have been in use since 2016 in steel production, with proven results as the most sustainable, low-cost-of-ownership filtration option the steel industry has seen in 40 years. Today’s introduction marks the first application of GORE LOW DRAG Filter Bags for industrial product collection.
Over two years of pilot testing have demonstrated that GORE LOW DRAG Filter Bags provide significant value in carbon black production by reducing emissions and lowering differential pressure while maintaining high airflow. Reduced emissions provide a dual benefit: facilitating consistent regulatory compliance while optimizing downstream energy recovery. Lower dP enables less frequent cleaning, which prolongs bag life; and facilitates higher airflow, which can improve production throughput.
“Building on the proven value of GORE LOW DRAG Filter Bags to the metals industry, we are pleased to now offer this game-changing technology to our carbon black customers,” said Steve Aubuchon, Product Manager. “Our extensive trials have confirmed remarkable value in carbon black production, and we are confident that our customers will realize significant process benefits along with lower cost of ownership”.
Historically, bag life in carbon black plants has been limited by “blinding,” or saturation of filter media, resulting in higher baghouse operational costs. By design, the new GORE LOW DRAG Filter Bags resist blinding and provide improved cleanability. Thanks to Gore’s proprietary, innovative membrane laminate, robust filter bag design, and complete application and system optimization, carbon black plant operators can now achieve an extremely reliable and low cost of operation, maintenance and compliance.
GORE LOW DRAG Filter Bags are available to carbon black manufacturers as a cost-effective solution that meets baghouse requirements. Gore will showcase its latest innovations in filtration at the Carbon Black China conference, in Chengdu, China, April 16–20, and at the Carbon Black World conference, Düsseldorf, Germany, September 25–26.
